Of the Land farm is located in Michigan, which legalized marijuana in 2018. Even though marijuana is legal in the state where we operate, not all wedding venues are cannabis-friendly in Michigan. If you are a client looking for a cannabis-friendly venue, this is definitely something to ask the staff about during a tour or before a site visit. No assumptions should be made that a venue will allow the service of cannabis. It would be terrible if cannabis is an important element to your celebration and you booked a venue and found out after the fact it wasn’t allowed– so heads up, ask early on in your search process. As far as we understand, each venue has the right to prevent the service of alcohol and/or marijuana.
Our Approach to Cannabis
We have hosted several weddings here at Of The Land that featured a cannabis bar. We have had no incidents or issues with our clients or their guests due to marijuana use. In our opinion, we see no difference between the consumption of alcohol and the consumption of marijuana on our property. We use certified servers who are trained to check IDs and prevent overconsumption of both substances.
For marijuana to be served at Of The Land, insurance and a certified budtender are requirements, as well as keeping the smoking in our designated outdoor areas to eliminate secondhand smoke. We welcome the responsible consumption of both alcohol and marijuana at Of The Land, and we also host dry weddings.
Dry Weddings and the Rise of Mocktails
Things are changing in our culture, and we’ve also seen a huge rise in the popularity of mocktails. Our clients looking for an alcohol-free wedding are stoked to hear they can have a full-on espresso party in our garden with a station for infused drinks. People get so jazzed about all the options available with our sober soiree that the conversation stops being about what isn’t being served and starts being about everything that is.
How We Handle Alcohol
Of The Land doesn’t hold a liquor license, so we serve alcohol as part of your package rather than selling it a la carte. We craft our mixers from scratch, using mostly local fruit, to build out our signature cocktails and infused drink options. Worth noting: many venues generate significant income from alcohol sales, which can factor into their openness to cannabis service if they’re worried it will cut into that revenue.
Come Celebrate However You Choose
Whether alcohol, cannabis, both, or neither is part of your celebration, we want you to feel welcome at Of The Land. Ask us about your options on your tour. We’re happy to walk you through what’s possible.
